BATS
Common and soprano pipistrelles are the bats you’re most likely to see (or hear) here. These tiny mammals weigh less than a £1 coin, yet each can eat thousands of insects in a single night.

They hunt by flying along the natural “corridors” between the trees, following paths and gaps in the canopy. As they fly, they send out bursts of high-pitched sound and listen for the echoes. It's a built-in navigation system known as echolocation or “bat sonar.” It helps them find their way and locate insects in total darkness.

Be here at dusk to see if you can spot them.
