Get counting! The annual big butterfly count has begun...

The Butterfly Conservation Trust's annual butterfly count has begun! The Big Butterfly Count is a UK-wide survey aimed at helping the Trust assess the health of our environment simply by counting the number and type of butterflies (and some day-flying moths) we see.

Click here to visit their website and found out how you can join in.

Step 1: Download the identification guide and app.

Step 2: Between Friday 18th July and Sunday 10th August choose a place to spot butterflies and moths. Watch for 15 minutes.

Step 3: Record your count on the app or website and see how your data is contributing to conservation science and research.

You will notice how different butterflies favour different areas of the Millennium woods. You may spot some ringlets, wood whites, gatekeepers and meadow browns flitting around, perhaps a skipper or two.
