Come and help us revamp a village verge this weekend! We plan to cut the vegetation right back, clear dead trees and scrub, and then replant with wild flowers. We got off to a cracking start last weekend in the first scything session of the autumn. Were we just more efficient now that we are seasoned scythers? Was the grass different somehow and easier because it had been scythed rather than mown last year? Was it the extra pair of hands of a newbie? Or were we just over-estimating how much we had actually cut, a frequent mistake made last year too? Whatever the truth, whatever the pace, scything with this crew was just as delightful as ever....
